Treats Studios began in 2019 as a group of artists seeking to share space and create community.
In 2021, we had the incredible fortune to buy the historic building where we had already established our studio in the heart of Spruce Pine. Since then, we’ve renovated the third floor to accommodate 8-10 additional artists. We are committed to offering affordable studio spaces, and we are excited to offer a subsidized space for emerging artists as well as a visiting artist program.
We are located in downtown Spruce Pine, NC, nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
We’re only 15 minutes away from Penland School of Craft and only an hour from Asheville. This artist-rich community is a welcoming and supportive environment for young and established artists alike.
We provide affordable private studios and a flexible public space for events, exhibitions, workshops, and gatherings. To support these goals, we are raising funds to strengthen the reality of this vision. Learn more about how you can help below.
Equity + Inclusion Statement
At Treats Studio we believe the fields of craft, art, and design tell the stories of our people. When groups of artists go unrepresented, an inaccurate and incomplete story is being told, sold, and preserved—and everyone loses. By providing affordable studio space that is open to all applicants with an effort made to select tenants from historically underrepresented groups we hope to aid in breaking down barriers that obstruct these artists from adding their voice to our nation’s story. Because of our location in rural Appalachia, we acknowledge that we may not have the opportunities to achieve our goals of diversification. So we will continue to work with the organization Crafting the Future to maintain our commitment to increasing representation in the field. Through volunteering and fundraising. More than half of the Treats founding members are also founding members of Crafting the Future and this commitment runs deep and is not just a passing fad.
